For the last couple years, my family and I have been known as "Slow Living Homestead." It really encompassed us as we grew to seek the art of slow living. While I feel the name still defines who we are, we wanted something that, as a family, we could grow into forever. And that's how Untamed Farm was born.
While searching for the "right" name, aside from praying about it, we wanted something that encompassed who we are and how we live. Not only that, but we wanted the name to be memorable and catchy. One day, the word untamed popped up in conversation. This was it! We feel we fit the description well due to our untamed way of living. Nearly everything we do seems to go against mainstream living. We drink raw milk, we eat organ meats, we choose to have babies at home, we encourage bare feet in the summer because a little dirt never hurt, and we believe we are the gatekeepers of our own health and well-being.
The way Ashley creates in the kitchen might resemble an untamed cook.
The way Jacob crafts with wood is similar to an untamed carpenter.
The way Jake and Ashley raise their children is a bit untamed.
In society's eyes, the Comers are surely untamed.
And we love it that way.
Now that we have a name to our little farm, we hope to really get it off the ground. It's a bit vulnerable for me to write and talk about things that haven't happened yet and are very "up in the air,"but our long term goal, as of January 2022, is to some day ranch full time running a beef operation that uses sustainable and regenerative farming practices. We would love to run primarily cattle, but also pigs and maybe sheep/goats. Our dairy goats we currently have are for sure staying with us, we just don't think we want to make a business out of dairying goats.
Currently, Jacob and I are still majorly in the resarch stage- learning what we can about the kind of cattle breed we want to choose, regenerative farming, etc. We are also actively praying about it. There's a lot of unanswered questions and a lot more leg work to be done.
Jacob & I have no farming background, we just decided we want this. We know we have the grit, stamina, and determination it takes. We want our kids to grow up on a farm and learning the values that a farm gives. We want this to be an entirely family oriented deal, because there's more to life than a family being separated daily by jobs, school, sports, and co curriculars.
Aside from long term goals, our short term goals will simply be getting our farm ready and continuing to learn how to homestead. I have started selling sourdough starters and might someday soon offer sourdough classes online. Possibly a goat milk herd share would be in the future, too, but we shall see. Maybe some merchandise. A lot of "maybe's." We will see what God has in store for us. It's easy to say what my plan is, but He directs my steps and His plan is far better than mine. Always.
I can't thank you ALL enough for the continued support you show my family and I. Through name changes, sharing products I love, wild shennanigans and everything in between. If you're reading this, I truly do love you. Jesus loves you more!
Live life to the fullest. Live life untamed.
